Low Country Boil
written by
Alex Bevan (the "Skinny
Little Boy from Cleveland, Ohio . . .")
Where the Brunswick River
wanders and winds
Far below the edges of the
Georgia pines
In a place where the water turns
brackish and braids
The shore birds soar and
pel-i-cans parade
When the marsh starts moving in
the evening winds
You can see the old shrimp boats
coming back in
Following the tide that's
flooding up the course
That's when we gather on the
docks or the porch
We spend a little time and take a
little ease
Underneath the moss of the live
oak trees
In quiet conversation sharing
thoughts about
the day
Looking to the clouds as the
daylight fades

That's when we lay down the
burden of our daily toil
And wait for the serving of the
Low Country Boil
Got silhouettes at sunset, we
got dancers on the shore
Moving to the music just like
semaphore
Waving their hands and spinning
all around
Kickin' up the dirt of this old
saltwater town
It's banjo and guitar with a
little tambourine
Harmonica and voice, its all
laughter and a scream
It's everybody grinning when they
turn the burner on
And everybody singin' that old
Jimmy Buffett song
You can be there if you want to,
oh, the price is just a smile
It's just right off the causeway
- it's that Jekyll Island style
From the beaches to the jungle to
that fine historic Inn
You can feel the tempo rising as
the bubbling begins
Come on and slap your feet in the
sandy Georgia soil
And get yourself ready for the
Low Country Boil!
~~~~~~
Buddy grab your lady, lady grab
your man
Come down to the place where
there's more stuff than you can stand
Bring along a big spoon, bring a
little beer
Stand and watch the sailboats
docking at the pier
Don't worry 'bout Savannah,
Jackson town is fine
They're busy with their traffic
jams and aren't on island time
We got moonrise on the east
shore, fire in the west
How long's this gonna last is
anybody's guess
Trade in your old minivan, get a
pickup truck
Buy some Georgia plates and give
the big life up
Get a yellow dog and join us,
don't go postal
Spend a little time going
completely intercoastal!
You won't find it in a Wal-Mart
or wrapped in fast-food foil
Come on and set yourself to a
Low Country Boil!
